Ultrasound Therapy

At our Hillingdon health clinic we offer physical ultrasound therapy that provides deep heating to soft tissue structures in the body. By using deep heat on the body’s muscles, tendons and ligaments, there will be a marked increase in circulation which will help the healing process and decrease the pain associated with these tissues.

How Does Ultrasound Therapy Work?

Ultrasound therapy works by using a metal treatment head that emits ultrasonic waves through mechanical vibration.

Using small, circular movements, gel will be stimulated around the affected body part, and energy will be transmitted painlessly into the tissues, particularly those that contain collagen. This vibration then causes an increase in heat production within the body’s tissues

Carried out in our specialist Uxbridge clinic by fully trained staff, the ultrasound machine has various settings that can control the depth of penetration and intensity of the ultrasound therapy, dependent on the stage at which an injury is healing.

Standard treatments usually last for approximately 3-5 minutes. In most acute cases however, they can be repeated 1-2 times daily, whereas in more chronic cases, treatments will be undertaken less frequently.

A patient can completely relax during ultrasound therapy as they will feel no physical pain. During treatment the patient might perhaps experience a slight warming sensation or tingly around the area that is being treated.

What are the Benefits of Ultrasound Therapy?

Ultrasound therapy increases tissue relaxation, local blood flow and scar tissue breakdown. The increase in blood flow can help to reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation.

In several studies, ultrasound therapy has also been proven to promote bone fracture healing.

Other benefits associated with ultrasound therapy include:

  • An increase in the ‘stretchiness’ of tight muscles and tendons
  • The quickening of cellular processes and healing of tissues through cavitation
  • The treatment of injuries such as frozen shoulder, bursitis and tendonitis
  • The healing of muscle strains, sprains, ligament injuries and joint tightness
  • A reduction in pain and muscle spasm, which encourages the healing process

The Health Lodge is proud to offer Ultrasound Therapy to help aid the healing process and reduce pain felt in soft tissues. We pride ourselves on patient care, and would love to get you started on your journey towards better health.
