Cold Laser Therapy

Cold Laser Therapy is a new and effective alternative treatment for pain relief currently being used in our Hillingdon clinic. It utilises low-intensity wavelengths of light to interact with tissue and speed up the body’s natural healing process.

How Does Cold Laser Therapy Work?

Cold Laser Therapy is undertaken using a handheld device that is placed over a patient’s specific injury for a short length of time. During this time, wavelengths of light are applied directly to the problem area. The wavelengths are absorbed by the light sensitive elements of the cell which causes a biological or chemical reaction to red and near-infrared light.

When the cell absorbs the light, a series of events will occur that will aid the normalising of previously damaged tissue. Damaged cells will react to the light, which helps to promote regeneration. This can lead to a reduction in pain and an overall acceleration of the healing process by intensifying intracellular metabolism.  The biochemical growth in cell energy can transform damaged live cells to a more stable state.

Certain conditions require a deeper penetration than others. Joint pain, for example, may need a deeper penetration than shallow tissue pain, such as surface scars. It all depends on your personal issues and what results we are aiming to achieve through your cold laser therapy sessions. Our specially trained staff at our Hillingdon clinic will be able to discuss what type of treatment is best for you and your condition.
